The Story

Phyllobates vittatus

Line: Old Line

Phyllobates vittatus are found in Golfo Dulce on the pacific coast of Costa Rica. These frogs are moderately shy throughout their lifespans (can get bolder with age, as with any frog), and do very well in groups, provided that the enclosure is large enough. It is recommended that no more than 3 go into a 10 gallon tank, 4-5 in a 20 gallon tank, and 6-8 in a 40 gallon tank. Females will generally lay 10-15 eggs under leaf litter or a coconut hut with flat leaves or a petri dish underneath. The frogs will transport tadpoles if left alone. Additional information can be found, of course, through our complimentary Encyclopedia Database: DendroKnow Project.
